Adding & editing products

Add a product with its brand, barcode, price, supplier, category, tags, and expiry date.

From your dashboard, “+ Add product” opens a chooser: add products manually, connect Square, Shopify, Clover, or a Google Sheet for automatic sync, or import a CSV. To add one manually, you can also open Inventory from the top navigation and use the “+ Add product” button on the catalog page. You can record:

  • Name, brand, UPC/barcode, and internal SKU code
  • Category and tags (e.g. Organic, Vegan, Locally Sourced)
  • Retail price and unit
  • Unit cost — what you pay per unit; SeaChange shows your margin next to it
  • An internal note — private reminders never shown to shoppers
  • Supplier and expiry date

Open any product to edit its details, adjust stock, set a low-stock threshold, or manage its tags. Products marked “Locally Sourced” are highlighted in your catalog.

Each product has “Your product name” — your store’s own label, which is what shoppers see on your store page and in search — alongside the shared “SeaChange catalog name” used across the marketplace. Editing your name only affects your store; leave it blank to use the catalog name. If you sync from a Google Sheet, your name comes from the sheet.

💡 Unit cost and internal notes are private to your store — they’re never shown to shoppers. Cost powers the margin figure shown as you type, and future margin and pricing insights. Cost also imports from the cost_price / Purchase Cost column of a CSV or a QuickBooks export.

💡 Adding the brand is optional but recommended: it helps nearby shoppers find your product when they search by brand — including from the SeaChange browser add-on while viewing that brand on a big e-commerce site.

💡 To add many products at once, use CSV import instead of entering them one by one.
