Selling by weight (refill & bulk goods)
Price refill, bulk, and by-the-ounce items per unit — stock is tracked in weight or volume, not just whole items.
If you run a refill station or sell bulk goods — grains, spices, loose tea, liquid soap, pet food by the pound — you can price and count them by weight or volume instead of as whole packages.
When you add or edit a product, set the “Sold by” field:
- Each (packaged) — an ordinary item sold as a unit, with one fixed price
- By weight or volume — grams, ounces, pounds, millilitres, or litres
For a by-weight item you enter a price per unit (e.g. $1.99 / oz) instead of a flat price, and stock is tracked as a decimal amount — so 12.5 oz on the shelf reads as 12.5, not 12.
- Stock adjustments accept fractional amounts (received, sold, counted, and so on)
- Square and Clover by-weight items sync in with their per-unit price and units
- Shoppers see the per-unit price (“$1.99 / oz”) on your public profile and in search
💡 Shopify does not support fractional stock, so items synced from Shopify stay packaged (“Each”). Set those up as by-weight directly in SeaChange if you need per-unit pricing.
